Influenza is circulating in the community

By | Alerts | No Comments

NSW Health have advised that influenza is circulating with cases increasing over the past few weeks.

Immunisation remains the best way to prevent influenza illness and vaccines are available at the surgery.

Symptoms of influenza include fever and chills, muscle aches and joint pains, extreme tiredness and cough. Children may also have vomiting and/ or diarrhoea.

Influenza is spread mainly through contact with droplets made when an infected person coughs or sneezes, infectious droplets can also be picked up from  surfaces where they have landed.

The best way to minimise the spread of infectious droplets is to  cover you mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands regularly, stay at home until you are well and make sure if you are coming to the surgery you let reception know that you are unwell so we can take precautions to avoid spreading the virus.
